The web is an almost unlimited source of information about Geomancy BUT please remember that each of us sees the other side differently.

So by all means, check out the Books, Link, Related Organizations, Events and other Resources in this section, BUT ultimately you must decide for yourself how you see the Earth Energies Elephant!

More and more people around the world are building new sacred spaces using principles like those discussed throughout the Mid-Atlantic Geomancy website.

It is our desire to celebrate the work of professional western geomancers as well as to let you know who is offering this kind of geomantic service in different locations around the world.

The geomancers listed below are ones that I know personally and have worked with over the years. While some of the geomancers below focus on either sacred or secular space, some can work in both.

Sacred Space

Secular Space

Please understand that, while I know and have worked with all of the professionals in this section, in listing these geomancers, MAG is in no way endorsing their particular methodology or skills.

We offer this information only because we want to support the growth of western geomancy. If in doubt, dowse them.

Ancient Greek Drama & Theatre - I was a drama major in college, and it gave me many ideas about how the Greeks turned ceremony in sacred space into a theatrical production - from subjectively experienced to objectively observed. Also Greek theatre is full of thought provoking "mythtory."

Ancient Web - A world-wide exploration of ancient civilizations.

Ancient Worlds cultures from around the world - Egyptian, Mesapotamian, New World and the Orient. One of the best is Celtia, though some of the material on the Orkneys is clearly not Celtic. A good general site.

Exploring Ancient World Cultures is a university cyber course with information on many of Europe's and Southern Asia's ancient cultures.

Greek Mythological Figures - an extensive listing of figures from Greek mythology. Interesting correlations & information.

Nursery Rhymes - It is amazing how nursery ryhmes can tell us things about the past that the writers of history didn't want us to know. As an example, go to this site and look at "Little Jack Horner" for insight into the dissolution of Glastonbury Abbey. Absolutely fascinating.

Encyclopedia Mythica - An extensive collection of our planet's myths.

The Family Tree of Greek Gods - An interactive Genealogic Map of the gods and goddesses of ancient Greece. Fun.

newFolklore and Mythology Resource Guide - An exaustive guide to both Folklore and Mythology

Archaeoastrology ^top^

Star Charts and Moon Stations by Steve Renshaw and Saori Ihara tells of the use of astronomy for astrological uses in Japan.

Forestry Suppliers - Where you can get a Suunto Tandem Compass in the USA.

Moon Circles - Following the cycles of the Moon from a spiritual perspective.

National Geophysics Data Center - Geomagnetism - Latitude & Longitude and Magnetic Deviation for your area can be found here.

Suunto Compasses - The company in Finland who makes the Tandem Compass that I use.

In addition to the Suunto Tandem, use the Apple iPhone for most of my Archaeoastrological work. Go to that section of MAG for more specifics. Here are the iPhone Apps I use:

AstroMart - a free way to find out how the planets are relating (aspecting) to each other through the use of astrology today. This URL can be used both from your computer or as an App from your iPhone.

SkyVoyager ($14.99) downloadable iPhone app from iTunes , I find that is a really sophisticated way to work with naked eye astronomy. You can easily identify both the constellations and the planets on their path along the ecliptic. While it it one of the most expensive Apps I have, it is well worth the cost as you can take it outside, and with a iPhone 3GS. as you tilt it around, the screen shows you what is in the heavens directly behind it!

Heavenly Mathematics - The goal of this course is to give you the necessary mathematical background for understanding what I call 'cultural astronomy', i.e., the role of astronomy in problems of general interest. This includes topics related to Asian culture and natural phenomena that are special to the tropics. After taking this course, you will be able to understand basic astronomical phenomena, and appreciate their cultural significance. Interesting site from Singapore.

Horizon Finder - This Program, written by David Dearborn, scans a greyscale image in Adobe Photoshop format, and returns a digitised and calibrated horizon profile, i.e. a file containing a list of the azimuth, altitude and declination of a sequence of horizon points from one end of the horizon to the other. The program runs on Apple Macintosh platforms only. (Sorry PC users!)

"Karahundj" Armenia's Stonehenge - These simple stones stretched out along the crest of a hill overlooking the Sissian River challenge the very dating of early astronomy and the answer to the question, "Who were the first astronomers?" If proven true, a current controversial dating of the stones at Karahundj predate England's Stonehenge, they predate the Babylonian's claim to being the first astronomers, and they confirm what some people already suspect: that Armenia is the birthplace of the zodiac, and perhaps the beginning of navigation and the concept of time.

Knowth and Dowth and Newgrange Solstice alignments - great photos! Michael Fox has done an excellent job of presenting Irish astronomy. Well worth a visit.

Maes Howe Research Project - Victor Reij's report on his work at Maes Howe. Good animated .gif of the sun passing through the chamber.

Ethics are an extremely important aspect of any geomantic work (or any dowsing work for that matter) you might do and it should govern how you conduct yourself after you have gained permission to work for anyone. Even the issue of permission is an ethical issue. For me, doing something as simple as dowsing someone's aura without permission is, to put it bluntly, psychic rape - entering someone else's being without permission.

Karma/good deeds/bad deeds is perhaps the most important reason why I feel it is important to operate ethically. When one incorrectly uses higher level skills (like dowsing), one pays for it even more quickly. Your karma can come back to you with a speedy vengeance.

But perhaps even more importantly, for the sake of all of us who are reintroducing geomancy to the public – most of whom are not even aware of the concept – the news of someone charging exorbitant rates, or in some other way taking unfair advantage of their clients, gives us all a bad name.

The British Society of Dowsers, in maintaining and continuing to promote dowsing and dowsing practitioners in a manner consistent with the highest standards of personal integrity and professional behaviour, requires the following code of ethical conduct to be followed by Members of the Professional Register. A member, whose conduct is considered by the Council to be in breach of the ethical code may be removed from the Register.

The reputation and usefulness of dowsing depend on the behaviour of dowsers. All dowsers owe it to their colleagues, and to members of the public who can benefit from dowsing skills, not to bring dowsing into disrepute.

The public expect high standards of behaviour in people they call in, on trust, to help them with aspects of their working and private lives. Essential elements of this are professional competence, good relationships with clients and colleagues, and observance of ethical obligations.

1. Good Relationships with Clients.

  • Treat every client politely and considerately.

  • Make sure that your personal beliefs do not prejudice your interactions with your clients - you must not allow your views about a client’s lifestyle, culture, belief, race, colour, gender, sexuality, age, social status or perceived economic worth to prejudice the work that you perform or recommend.

  • Adequately assess your client’s needs and desires. Listen to and respect their views, and allow them to be fully involved in decisions about your work for them.

  • Recommend and perform only the treatment or services that serve your client’s needs.

  • Explain your services to your clients in a way that they can understand, and be satisfied that the client understands and agrees to what is proposed before you begin.

  • Respect the right of your clients to decline your services after these have been outlined and explained.

  • Recommend and advise additional or otherwise relevant services or actions when necessary, including referring to another practitioner or other professional.

2. Maintaining Trust With Clients and The Public

  • Always behave in an honest and trust-worthy manner with your clients and with the public.

  • Only dowse for information that concerns you personally or that lies within an area of public concern, unless you are asked or given permission by clients or others to dowse either for them personally or for groups or organisations of which they are members. Be careful to restrict and focus your dowsing to the legitimate concerns and needs of those seeking your services.

  • Do not dowse for information about other people, their property, possessions or concerns without their request or permission, unless it is clearly in the interest of the highest common good to do so, and do not make unsolicited comments about other people or their concerns based on your position as a dowser. In the case of a person unable to represent themselves, either through age, illness or disability, you may dowse at the request of or with the permission of a parent, close family member, guardian or care-giver.

  • Respect your client’s dignity and privacy, and do not reveal your client’s identity without prior permission.

  • Never improperly disclose or misuse confidential information that you may discover or become privileged to in the course of your dowsing.

  • You must not use your position to establish improper personal relationships with clients or their close relatives.

  • You must not deliberately withhold relevant or appropriate information or services from your clients.

3. Respecting Relationships with Colleagues.

  • You must always treat your colleagues fairly, be willing to consult with them and must be prepared to justify your actions to them if necessary.

  • You must never discriminate unfairly against your colleagues, or allow your views of their lifestyle, culture, belief, race, colour, gender, sexuality, age or social status to prejudice your professional relationship with them.

  • You must not make any client doubt a colleague’s knowledge or skills by making unnecessary or unsustainable comments about them.

4. Good Performance.

  • The BSD encourages you to keep your knowledge and skills up to date.

  • Keep clear and accurate records of relevant findings and work conducted.

  • Recognise (and work within) the limits of your competence.

5. Providing Information About Your Services.

  • When discussing or publicising your findings as a dowser, be responsible and considerate of the effects that such information may have both on any individuals concerned and on public opinion generally. Avoid sensational or misleading statements and bear in mind the likely accuracy and completeness of your dowsing information.

  • If you publish or broadcast information about your services, the information must be factual and verifiable. The information that you publish must not make claims about the comparative quality of your services nor compare your services with those your colleagues provide. For those whose work includes healing or therapies of any kind you must not, in any way, offer guarantees of cures, nor exploit a client’s vulnerability or lack of knowledge.

  • Information that you publish or provide about your services must not put pressure on people to use a service, for example by arousing fear for their present or future health or well-being.

6. Legal Observance & Commercial Dealings.

  • You must observe and keep up to date with any laws and statutory codes of practice which affect your work..

  • You must obtain adequate insurance for any part of your work that calls for or allows such cover.

  • You must be honest in financial and commercial matters relating to your work as a dowser.

  • You must inform clients of your method of charging, estimated fees and all additional costs that may apply before you commence any work for them.

  • You must not put pressure on your clients to give or lend money or their benefits to you or other people.

  • When taking part in discussions about selling goods or services, you must declare any relevant financial or commercial interest which you or your family might have in the transaction.

7. Teaching and Training.

The BSD encourages you to help the public to be aware of and understand dowsing and related issues and to contribute to the education and training of other dowsers.

Cameron Aurameters Life Understanding FoundationP.O. Box 30305Santa Barbara, CA 93130(805) 649-5721 probably still are other aura meters, but in my experience, they are not worth the money. Also, please understand that the vast majority of dowsers DO NOT NEED AND AURAMETER. They are too expensive, but for showing others the outlines of intangible targets, they are the best.

Earth SymbolsAlex B. Champion, Ph. D., Owner. An earth symbol is a large walkable earthwork, with Sunken paths and elevated earth mounds. The designs are based on the archetypal patterns of Nature, and laid out using principles of sacred geometry, and geomancy.

It is an earth sculpture, and a unique garden, as well as a spiritual symbol. It can be used for a personal spiritual pilgrimage, group ceremonies or walks. Or it can be used as place where people can gather to walk, talk, or have fun.

A labyrinth naturally creates a sense of community. Alex Champion may be reached at (707) 895-3375, (707) 895-2598 (fax), PO Box 145, Philo, CA 95466 USA; or through email - Ask to receive his brochure and or his wife, Joan's "Voices of the Labyrinth" catalog. Check out his Earth Symbols website.

Finger labyrinths are a wonderful way to get to gnow these ancient single path magical tools. "Walking" a lefthanded and a right handed labyrinth at the same time, does very interesting things to your brain. Walking a single one is relaxing, especially with the eyes closed.

What makes Voyager software so nice is that you can adjust the horizon - an absolutely necessary part of geomantic work.

Astronomical Software for iPhone

Internet Astronomy Software Programs vary in cost, but the one I use is an iPhone App called SkyVoyager from Carina Software (from iTunes) £14.99 (about $25 as of January 2010) . I take it outside with me at night, and point it at the part of the heaven I'm looking at. It not only names the constellations and planets, but the satellites as well! Even if you include the cost of the iPhone, it's cheaper - and IMHO - better/more immediately useful for naked eye astronomy than most regular computer astronomical software.

Tools to measure angle of elevation to the horizon.I use the Suunto PM-5/360 PC Clinometer. Made in Finland. I ordered mine in the US from Forestry Suppliers Inc., Box 8397, Jackson, Mississippi 39204, USA. They also has a leather case # 37011.

This tool is designed for foresters to estimate the board footage of a tree. It is therefore not really set up for long-range elevation measurements - however it is the best pocket tool I have found yet.

It is our intention to build on this meagre list. Sig’s Latest Book:

Memoirs of a Geomancer

Sig Lonegren has been a practicing Geo-
mancer for over forty years.  He holds a Master’s Degree in the study of Sacred Space, is a past trustee of the American Society of Dowsers and the New England Antiquities Research Association, an Honorary Life Vice President of the British Society of Dowsers, a Founding Member of The Labyrinth Society, and an ordained Spiritualist Minister.

This book is the memories of his life as a Geomancer.  It also has bits of his early life, of his time in Vermont and of his home in Glastonbury where he lived with his wife Karin until recently.  They now live in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.

His life goal is to be at least one step nearer to his Maker than he is now.  Geomancy is the tool he is using to achieve that goal.

The only pace you can get this book is to order it from his publisher, Penwith Press

I am pleased to tell you that two of my hard copy books are being republished in up-dated versions by Gothic Image Publications of Glastonbury, England.

Labyrinth book by Sig

This is a major revision of Sig's labyrinth book with added sections on one possible use of the Classical Eleven Circuit Labyrinth, an amazing way to dance the Seven Circuit Labyrinth with groups called "The Appleton," and the use of labyrinths as portals to the spiritual realms. It has also been updated in numerous areas with new URLs and new labyrinthine contacts.

Published by Gothic Image Publications in Glastonbury, England. You can order it from them at their website.

Labyrinths, Ancient Myths and Modern Uses is a pioneering book written by a knowledgeable and visionary man. Sig Lonegren responded to the deep intuitive nature of labyrinths long before the Labyrinth Movement was established. Clear, concise, fascinating; this book is a primer to learning about the Classical labyrinth and other labyrinths as well. - Lauren Artress, Author of Walking a Sacred Path and The Sacred Path Companion.

Spiritual Dowsing

This is an updated re-publication of Sig's first book (and one of his best). It is readable, non-dogmatic and wide-ranging, and is for all seekers on the spiritual path who want to know if dowsing can help them to directly experience the intangible realms.

It has now been republished by Gothic Image Publications here in Glastonbury, England. You can order a copy by clicking on the above website URL.

It helped me realize there is much more to dowsing than finding underground water, pipes - that there is a wide world of subtle energies. One of the best dowsing books I've ever found!
Joey Korn, author of Dowsing: A Path to Enlightenment.

This is perhaps the best selling book on dowsing in history – over 1.5 million copies sold in over fifteen languages including in English (Virgin, London), American (Fireside Books/Simon & Schuster, New York), Dutch (Uitgeverij Kosmos – Utrecht/Antwerpen), Australian (Lothian), and Japanese (Tuttle-Mori Agency Inc., Tokyo).

This completely self-contained kit includes everything you need to become an expert dowser, including a well balanced pendulum with cord and a 128 page instruction book with exercises, dowsing charts, astrology charts and maps to show you how to interpret every movement of the pendulum even if it makes none, discover sacred site energies and leys, determine which foods are most and least healthful for you, create and use other dowsing tools like L-rods and Y-rods, and much more.

With your personal pendulum, you will have the key to unlock the mysteries of the Earth and its energy fields, and to tap the unlimited potential of your own mind.

Sacred Space Handbook

Revised Edition 2012

Sig Lonegren

Sig Lonegren

Initially a Joint Venture of:

This e/iBook, Sacred Space Handbook, (ISBN 978-0-9571464-1-9) will help you gather data in sacred spaces including archaeoastronomy, sacred geometry, the Earth energies and other data. It will help you to get ready for the real work: Experiencing for yourself the reality of the Spiritual Realms. It was originally written in the early nineteen-eighties to convince academicians that the sacred sites in New England were not colonial root cellars (in British: "storage clamps")... It didn't work. Columbus was first and the Native American "Primative Savages" couldn't have been so sophisticated. Archaeologists and other reserchers just couldn't shift their left brained paradigms.

So this revision is written to convince the reader that sacred spaces are real, and once convinced, the reader may feel ready to experience the spiritual in these sites; consequently, this e/iBook is major revision of this handbook first published in 1985 under the title Earth Mysteries Handbook: Holistic Non-Intrusive Data Gathering Techniques. You can order the Sacred Space Handbook for iPads at iTunes ($4.99/ £4.99/€4.99) and for Kindle Fire from Amazon ($8.09/£5.14/€5,14).

If you don't have an iBook or Kindle, you can also get a copy of my book for your computer. You will need an Amazon account, and you can download Kindle software free for your Mac or your PC.

What other Geomancers have to say about Sig's work:

I have (my students) reading your Spiritual Dowsing and Earth Mysteries Handbook, and 2-3 of them commented this last session about how much they appreciate your 'voice' - 'dear reader,' the way of speaking directly to them, 'put down the book and do the exercise,' and the s/he pronouns throughout. I love hearing howthey get you and your heart-centered approach.

Richard Feather Anderson
American School of Geomancy

Sig Lonegren stands as a bright candle and pioneer of his generation and of the re-emerging global awareness of Geomancy.

About the Bibilography

This bibliography is quite extensive, and it is our intent to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Many titles are available through your local bookstore. Others which may appear to be out of print may well be available through the American and/or British Society of Dowsers Bookstore or Amazon. Some books are listed in more than one topic area. While appropriately most of the books and booklets deal with the subject of geomancy, I also have allowed either my own unbridled personal interests or my pendulum to choose other books to put in this bibliography.
